Micropumps transporting the tiniest amounts of gases or liquids can be considered the heart of microfluidics. In many sectors they have become indispensable.

Applications

Our micropumps can be used in many different ways in medical and analytical technology, mechanical engineering, space research and many other applications.

Small, lightweight, robust and reliable

With their small dimensions and low weight, our micropumps are already equipped for many fields. Added to this is particle tolerance down to a particle size of 40 µm and good temperature resistance. Together, the micropump is a small miracle of use for the most diverse applications.

Cost Effective

Produced almost entirely from plastic, our micropumps can be manufactured cost-effectively in high volumes. The material is either PPSU or PP. Therefore, it is a real cost wonder!

Functional Principle

The functional principle of Bartels micropumps is based on a piezoelectric diaphragm in combination with passive check valves. A piezo ceramic mounted on a coated brass membrane is deformed when voltage is applied. By the resulting down stroke, the medium is being displaced out of the pump chamber below. The check valves on both sides of the pump chamber define the flow direction.


Micropumps mp6

The micropumps in Bartels’ mp6 series are miniaturized double diaphragm pumps. Each micropump is run by two piezo actuators. Due to the space- and energy-saving construction they are cost-effective even in high quantities. The materials used make the micropumps remarkably versatile. Variable flow rate adjustment guarantees a wide range of possible applications.

The mp6-liq micropumps can be used to promote both liquids and gases, for liquids in particular the mp6-pp and mp6-pi offer a wide range of usable liquids, while the mp6-gas and mp6-gas+ are specialists for gas promotion. To say is that all of our mp6 micropumps are able to promote liquids, mixtures and gases.

One rule applies to all micropumps in the premises:

The flow rate of the micropumps shows a linear dependency on the back pressure.
At 0 mbar back pressure the maximum flow rate can be achieved and at the maximum back pressure the flow rate is decreased to 0 ml/min. The relation of pressure and flow rate is linear.

  • This kit allows a quick first test to clarify whether an application with the mp6 micropump makes sense. The  micro-pump has a very simple technical design and is also very small.

  • In order to be able to test the micro pump for its suitability, the mp-Multiboard is  designed in such a way that it can be operated with simple handling steps.

  • The mp-Multiboard can be equipped with all our drivers (mp-Lowdriver, mp-Highdriver, mp-Highdriver4), so that from the lowest flow rate with one micropump up to four micropumps can be tested simultaneously. All driver  chips that can be used on the evaluation board are controlled with the  software developed by us, allowing easy operation.

  • In the software the frequency, as well as the voltage can be adjusted. In addition, there is an integrated timer mode, which allows the micro-pump  to be switched on and off selectively. Due to the simple plug-in connection and the existing cables, a flexible use of the micropumps with  the mp-Multiboard is given.

  • The  software for the mp-Multiboard is available in our download area.

  • So  a simple set-up for testing the mp6 micropump is easily possible.

  • Each  set comes with the necessary accessories, such as tubing and hose clamps.

  • In order to be able to test the pump for its suitability, the mp-Multiboard is constructed in such a way that it can be operated with simple handling steps. The mp-Multiboard can be equipped with all our drivers (mp-Lowdriver, mp-Highdriver, mp-Highdriver4), so that from the lowest  flow rate with one pump up to four micropumps can be tested  simultaneously. We would like to add the possibility of using a microfluidic chip. All this can be easily set and used in the software. This is available in our download area.

  • So a simple set-up for testing the mp6 micropump is easily possible. Each kit      comes with the necessary accessories, such as tubing and hose clamps.

  • Please note that the mp-Labtronix controller can only control one mp6 micropump at a time. The micro-pump has a very simple technical design and is also very small.

  • The controller included in this set is our mp-Labtronix, a larger laboratory box with extensive      testing capabilities. Instead of the driver, the mp-Labtronix has a much more flexible desktop control unit, where frequency and voltage are  entered via pushbuttons and shown on the display. It is worth mentioning  that the signal form can be switched and the box can also be controlled externally via a USB port.

mp-Mulitboard

Evaluation board

The mp-Multiboard is an evaluation board that allows controlling one of our I²C controlled pump-drivers (mp-Lowdriver, mp-Highdriver, mp-Highdriver4) through an Arduino microcontroller.
Up to four mp6 micropumps can be directly connected to the board. An external power supply connector is available, but the board can also be powered through the microcontroller USB port. The board has multiple auxiliary connectors for future use with active valves, pressure and flow sensors. The mp-Multiboard comes preprogrammed with an interface software and windows application. Arduino source-code is available on our website. Interface protocol will be available soon.

Pump driver for up to 4 pumps

The mp-Highdriver4 is a pump driver that allows driving up to four mp6 micropumps simultaneously. It comes in a package similar to an integrated circuit that enables integration into system electronics or on a PCB. The driving frequency, amplitude and also the driving signal is adjustable. Sine signal and rectangle are available amongst others. Every pump can be activated and deactivated individually. This driver is configured and controlled through an I²C interface.

mpSmart - microfluidic systems

Miniaturization and functional integration continue to be important trends in the areas of Life Science, Medicine, Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics. As part of this, microfluidic components and systems are a fundamental element in the development of innovative solutions. The system is based on our mp6 series of micropumps. mpSmart means that the micropump is being combined with one or more additional components, such as a sensor, a microfluidic chip or an active valve. This turns it into a microfluidic system with additional functionality. One feature of the intelligent mpSmart system is that our experienced developers select and fully pre-assemble the individual components with all the right settings for your purposes, so that the system is ready for operation. The electronics and the control systems are precisely matched to each unit. Of course to help you with this, we will also provide you with some individual software that has a user interface you will find simple and intuitive to operate.

The family already includes the mpSmart-Dosing, the mpSmart-Lowdosing and the mpSmart-Flowstop. The mpSmart-Dosing and the -Lowdosing are small but intelligent dosing systems with sensors that allow flow rates to be set with the highest level of precision for different fluids – whatever the temperature or viscosity. With the mpSmart-Flowstop, the micropump is connected to an active valve instead of a sensor, so that the microfluidic system can be switched as needed.
